    Cop followed me too long

Not that big a deal, but just curious, how long are they allowed to follow you? I was never pulled over. Plate was 870RBR, Grand Junction, Colorado cop...

As long as they feel like it. Just go the speed limit and don't worry about it if you haven't done anything wrong?

I agree with the other responses. There is no set time limit a police officer can follow you for.

Every time I have been pulled over it seems the officer follows me for a few minutes before flipping on the lights. Is there any reason behind this or are they just waiting for a reason?

sometimes officers will "sweat" a person they intend to pull over or wish to pull over but still do not have an articulable suspicion they have done something wrong. the thinking is people who have done nothing wrong will act like it; others will get nervous, change their driving pattern, possibly run...etc. generally they will also run your tag for warrants and owner info before pulling you over as well.

This is an interesting issue... I believe they can follow you, it is probably an intimidation factor. As long as you remain calm and do not volatile any laws, you should be fine. I was discussing this with some
attorneys in columbia sc the other day, and although it is annoying and stressful, there is really nothing you can do about it.

The reason a cop is following you is because they are running your license plate. It is not a big deal and I wouldn't worry about it. Like mentioned before, a cop will also follow you longer because you start to act nervous and they may be suspicious. I wouldn't worry about it, it's their job.
