Default Misled by friend, what can I do?

I met a woman in Boise, Idaho while there on vacation and she is a court reporter and she offered me a job being a scopist and proofreader for her.
I live in California but she assured me that after I learned how to use the
Case Catalyst software that she had more work than I could handle. So my boyfriend paid over $2,000 dollars for the software and security key and computer and printer and burner. All necessary to do the job. While teaching
myself with books and sheer will she called me and told me that she was put on administrative leave because she was so far behind in her work and could I
come to Boise and do some work for her so that she wouldnt lose her job.
So, my boyfriend buys me a ticket and off I go to help her. After working for
2 weeks straight and getting all her work caught up and saving her job for her, I came home and was promised that I would have a case to start on within 2 weeks. It has now been 2 months and she wont answer my phone calls, e-mails or letters. We spent alot of money so that I could start this job
and now she has totally screwed me. Is there anything that I can do to make her compensate me for all the time and money that she has caused me to waste? I have all the e-mails that she sent me asking me to work for her,
and promising me all the work I could handle. You would think that someone who has worked for the courts for 7 years would be a little more trustworthy.
I would appreciate any help or comments or ideas anyone might have. Thank you.
