Default Accident Help...

I live in a mobile home park and the parking spaces are caddy corner to one another. Last week, I was walking to my car and I saw my neighbor walking into his home. I was backing out of my parking spot trying to avoid hitting a car parked directly behind me on the opposite side of the road, which I did. Unfortunately I felt a small bump and heard a horn. I looked in my mirror to see my neighbor's (the same neighbor that was going in his home earlier) van in my rearend. I pulled the car a little forward and put it in park. I got out to inspect the damage, and my neighbor yelled "Holy F*#king s*#t", I said "are you okay?" because the damage wasn't horrible. He said "Yea, you live hear right?" "yes" and he said "we can take care of this later?" I said "I guess" and he jumped in the van and took off. I have a brand new car with minor scratches down to the fiberglass and some scratches on the plastic bumper. He has a dent with a scratch down the side. A week has gone by and when I got home yesterday, there was an estimate laying on the counter from the neighbor for $950. My boyfriend said he came over and told him that we backed into each other and he would settle for less, probably have a friend fix it, but he needed something...what??? My estimate so far is $600. I think he should fix his car and I should fix mine, or if he's going to expect me to pay for his damages, we should have called the police to say who's fault it was and turn it into insurance...one problem...we didn't. I don't want to pay a dime for his damage, but I don't know what to do. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

To say simply, you fix yours and let him do the same. or go for legal action but get attorney's advice before doing so.
