Default Bladder not functioning

My wife gave birth to our daughter 7 weeks ago. Ever since she has not been able to evacuate urine. She has been using a catheter for 4 weeks and now does self catherization.

We were referred to a urologist (HMO, Kaiser). After MRI and labs and so forth he, nor the other doctors who have seen my wife, are willing to say more than just wait until the bladder resumes working. No one has or wants to pin point the exact reason why this has happened to her. We assume now that either the peridural has caused this or the fact that the doctor at the hospital neglected to empty her bladder when we told her she wan't able to urinate, saying this is normal condition and it will go away (we had to comeback to the hospital the following day to have the catherer put on).

In short, doctors seem to be pretty laid back about all this and we believe something could have been done to prevent her bladder from going dormant, which now causes her a lot of pain and suffering. We are considering lawyering up, but I'm not sure how strong of a case we might have.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Default Hi there

Hi, I just have to say that youir wife needs a complete check up at a different hospital. There can be numerous reasons as to why your wife may not be able to empty her bladder, from the psychomatic to the medical, either way considering the fact that she has just gone through labor, she needs a thorough check up at a different hospital since this one does not seem to have provided your wife with the optimal treatment.

Even my suggestions would be the same get a thorough check up done at another hospital and then charge the earlier doctors that they were wrong.

If your wife have been treated by a doctor or surgeon and have been surly injured as a result of them deviating from accepted medical practices, then you may have a very valid injury claim. But it is not as simple as asking the hospital or doctor to hand over money. You have to retain the services of an experienced personal injury attorney.

First you need to have your wife checked at a different hospital. Then after that is done, let the previous doctor know what the other doctors said. The unfortunate part of this is, you can not file a medical malpractice claim, if the problem can be fixed by another doctor. You can however call a lawyer and find out what kind of rights you have and if you even have a case. Most lawyers will talk to you over the phone for a few minutes for free.

I hope this situation gets resolved quickly.

Congrats on the new baby!!!!

To echo everyone else's thoughts- get your wife checked out by another doctor. I would also consider consulting with an attorney who specializes in medical malpractice claims. Consultations are usually free and it will help you decide how to move forward. If you do decide to fial a lawsuit, be prepared for a case like this to take some time to settle. If you find yourself becoming overwhelmed by medical bills, lawsuit funding is option. Orchard Legal Funding is company that specializes in cases like your wife's.

It seems that all are suggested you to get your wife check up with different hospitals. I agree with all the suggestions, for me you really need to be patient, if some doctors can't treat your wife, try other doctors!! There are a lot of doctors that are great and there are some that are not. Try also doctors in other country, maybe they are the one who can treat your wife, try to search where the best doctor is.
