Over and Out
Hey all
It occurs to me that I haven't been a law student for close to a month. Well, I guess I'm articling now, but you know. Not exactly what this board is geared for. And I'd prefer not to talk about articling anyway, because it's a rather particular kind of experience and I'd rather not out myself. Far more trouble than it's worth.
So anyway, this seems like a good time to wave goodbye. It's been fun to pop in here off and on over the years, but anything worth saying has been said already and my information and views aren't likely to be updated now that I'm out of school. So I'll leave it to everyone else.
Just a last bit of advice and a request to anyone who's found my posts useful in the past. It's very easy and tempting to get tired of this forum once you're in law school and have been there a few months. It's rare you'll find a new question and even rarer you'll learn anything useful for yourself, but I still think it's a worthwhile experience. Part of legal practice is learning to give competent and balanced advice. Lawyers are called "counsel" in many contexts for good reason. So this is good practice in some ways. And if you find some people don't want to heed the good advice you're giving them - well, some clients won't be eager to believe you either.
So do make the effort to pop by once in a while. If you don't you'll leave this place in the hands of only law school hopefuls (or wannabes, to be less generous about it) who may have good intentions or bad intentions but in either case don't have a lot of perspective or information to share. It's fine they are all here and try to help one another, but without at least some actual law students around this place isn't worth much.
If you find the forum gets frustrating and you're sick of answering the same question for the umpteenth time just remember that you don't need to answer stuff you're bored with and if you want a break then take it. But don't snap at people only for asking all the same **** questions. There are only so many good questions, after all, and it seems we aren't likely to escape the same ones that keep coming up time and again. So try not to get too pissy about it. I haven't always succeeded there myself.
Lest this all seem too much about sunshine and puppy dogs, I still believe that when people give negligent advice (meaning either they know it isn't true or they have reckless disregard for the truth) they need to be smacked down. The wishful cheerleaders, whose illusions are often fed by fears for their own chances, need to be pointed with some firmness towards the facts. The trolls and idiots need to be told to foad once in a while. If you've been waiting for someone's permission to do that, feel free to cite mine.
All the best, good luck in law, and take care.
