    Saturation in the legal market

I know that the Canadian context is vastly different than the U.S. experience, but I'm really worried that the CBA will eventually budge and create what is now a saturated legal market in the U.S. in Canada. For them (the U.S.), it all started with allowing more unnecessary law schools to be opened up. I hope the universities that want to open up new law schools will be flat out rejected. Common sense tells me that the CBA would want to keep their profession as highly prestigious as possible, but WHO KNOWS? Am I freaking out? Or is this a legitimate concern?

Very legitimate concern. The law school/law student market is vastly oversaturated and unfortunately for the newer and coming graduates it will be a very rude awakening.

Just from what I've read and heard, there are far too many lawyers in the US and the job market is so tight, lawyers are forced into other areas of work or at least need to supplement.

As a law student, this is a scary thing to hear!

There are some new services coming out on the web where lawyers can bid for jobs. That's different, for sure, but it gives young lawyers who are willing to negotiate a leg up. As long as you stick within the region you are licensed, it's a good oportunity. Check out www.bidsfromlawyers.com.
