law degree options
Hi, I'm currently a law student. I was wondering, besides becoming an attorney, what are the options for people who obtain a j.d.?
Thank you

There aren't really any barriers, I know the FBI is hiring lawyers as well as other agencies. A law degree does not restrict you from any field of work, on the other hand it helps you do that with a better trained mind.

Some people believe that a law degree is only useful for a person who wants to be a lawyer, but I think that research and communication skills learned in law school are useful in a variety of vocations. Well I think that you can try to choose from a wide variety of dual degree programs that allow a predetermined number of credits from each program to count toward elective credits in the other program.

I did my JD in 2.5 years. No need to waste time and money taking an "easy" load. Take some summer classes and get the heck out. I'm no worse for wear - and I'm not a "genius" or "overachiever."
There is a lot of non-attorney government work where lawyers have a leg up. Federal law enforcement is a big one.

I received my JD in 3 years and thought the work load was just fine. I ended up starting my own company as opposed to actually practicing law. I am quite content with the decisions I have made and hopefully this will help you in your decision making as well. If you would like to see what options you have I encourage you to visit my website and check out the services I now offer www.processserversandiego.com The pay is significantly less, but the hours are shorter and the rewards are greater. I am based out of San Diego and do most of my business throughout the Southern California area. Thank you and I hope everything works out. eServe

Job Options
You have many options in the job department. Government is very eager to hire someone with a law degree. Also, you can look into education with it. There are always the typical jobs that a lawyer would have, as well. If you look it up online you will find a good amount of job options and what they entail. Good luck!
