    Rental Agreements

I live in BC. I entered into a month-to-month lease last mid-December. I gave my roommate my monthly notice and rent on the last day of December. When I initially rented in December I distinctly remember saying that I would not being paying power bills and we would discuss the matter in a few months. Now that I am moving out, my roommate is requesting that I pay for a portion of the power bill for the last two months. If legally required, I will pay, but do verbal agreements mean anything?

It would be almost impossible for anyone to side with someone from a verbal agreement in this case.

However, it would be equally hard for your roommate to collect the money owed. The cost of suing you would not be worth it.
