Rental Agreements
I live in BC. I entered into a month-to-month lease last mid-December. I gave my roommate my monthly notice and rent on the last day of December. When I initially rented in December I distinctly remember saying that I would not being paying power bills and we would discuss the matter in a few months. Now that I am moving out, my roommate is requesting that I pay for a portion of the power bill for the last two months. If legally required, I will pay, but do verbal agreements mean anything?

It would be almost impossible for anyone to side with someone from a verbal agreement in this case.
However, it would be equally hard for your roommate to collect the money owed. The cost of suing you would not be worth it.Stirling Gardner (aka The Hollywood Landlord)
