30 day terminate tenancy, owner sold home?
i live in a 3 bed,1bath home in burbank, calif. i rent 1 room, owner has 1 room and the 3rd room is rented out, i'm on a month to month agreement and moved in on sept. 7, 2008, on july 29, 2009, the owner informs myself and the other tenant that he sold the home to a cousin who resides in arizona, and on august 1, 2009 we were to be served a 30 day notice to vacate, which i was when i arrived home from work, i have no knowledge of the other tenant receive his notice, my question is i dot believe the house has been sold and using this action to clean house so to speak, i've paid all rent and utilities that needed to be paid, i'm a carpenter in a construction bust economy at this time and i'm lucky to get in 2 days a week to date, and i need more time to relocate, that is a definate for sure, is it improper to ask the owner to show documentation of the sale, to validate the reason of serving me notice to vacate, it's aug 4, 2009 26 days remaining and this straw i'm grabbing is i feel the only one that has legalities that may assist me in recieving another month or recieving relocation funds by the owner, please help, thank you all.

Your Situation
If your lease ended and you are not in a rent controlled part of Los Angeles, your landlord can serve you a 30-Day Notice to vacate and not need any reason whatsoever. He may be too afraid to tell you himself and using his brother as a fall. You can check public records to see who's name is on the deed, but again, it won't matter if you aren't under rent control.
Did your original rental lease agreement say anything about renewing the lease once it is up?
