Canadian Internet Privacy
Hello, I'm from Canada and i like in a college residence, and take computer science and i have recently heard from employees of the residence that they plan on "cracking down" on downloading. I havent talked to the person in charge yet but i think they mean any kind of downloads, i was wondering if they are allowed to monitor out internet traffic legally, and if so what can or cant they monitor. In addition, we did sign a resident agreement but it has no mention of internet use, nor does the residence handbook. If anyone can give me a general run down of what my rights are here it would be most appreciated.

Canadian Internet Privacy
The internet was orginally designed for and by the American military so its no surprise that governments have kept an eye on it. Theirs ways to make it more difficult for outsiders to spy on you using proxy servers, not accepting cookies, installing firewalls etc. However there will always be a trade off between usability and security. It all depends on how paranoid you are.
