husband forced me to sponsor him

Please bear with me. I'm an American. I was married under false pretenses and lived in a foreign country for 7 years with my current husband who I am now separated from. We have 1 child together.

He mentally, and emotionally abused me in his country and kept medical attention from me, kept finances from me, we were not imtimate at all, in fact we slept in separate rooms by his choosing. He would not allow me to bring our american born daughter out of his country and for her, I stayed and his country does not recognize abuse unless it is physical. For 7 years I remained there because I had no option of leaving with her.

It wasn't until one day after an emotional breakdown that I said I had to come back to the states as I was so worn down emotionally and physically with depression as he made me hate myself and near suicidal. He decided we would all go cause it was his dream to live in the states all along. He made me sponsor him before we could leave his country so I did. We came here and his behavior was the same, treating me badly so I was able to escape by another person who helped me. My husband moved to be closer to me and our child but now he is starting to bully me again even though we are not in the same house anymore. My stress is starting to return and I need him out of my life for good. I don't know what i can do, I feel like he gets away with so much. I am too broke as a single mother to persue this legally and I had to waive my rights for any assistance in order to sponsor him.

Anyone have any advice for me in what I can do to protect myself?
