Bringing a car into the US from Canada

I'm hoping someone can help me with this as I cannot seem to find any information regarding this matter. I will be attending a University in Florida this coming September and will be going back home to Toronto, Canada in late May. If I were to drive my car down and keep it for the nine months, do i have to obtain a Florida License and plate? Or can I keep it registered under my Toronto address? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,

I think they recommend that you get a Florida drivers license if you plan on staying for periods longer than 3 months but you should be ok without it. I am in nearly the same situation as you, I am originally from Toronto but spend more than 6 months of the year here in Miami.

I have never had any issues with my vehicle down here. You can easily get a new license though, simply make an appointment and having a valid Ontario license will get you a Florida license. I have been told they take away your Canadian license when they give you the Florida one but they didn't with me so I have both.

If you buy a car here then I think you will need both the Florida plate and license.

    Hope this helps!
