needing advice
My sister in law suddenly ran off, to a different state, taking her and my brothers two children. We contacted local LE but was informed he could do nothing but get a lawyer. What can/will a lawyer do?
She left on a Friday morning and sent him a text message on Saturday night saying she was in NC and would talk to him in a few days. It has been a couple of weeks and she will not answer her phone and will only respond to a few text messages, she did allow my brother to talk to his daughter for 30 sec to a minute but then hung up. If you have any questions just ask.....

BS
As far as I'm concerned that is kidnapping. Get the lawyer and his kids back. Don't wait at all and be aggressive. It's gonna cost ya but that's nothing compaired to not having your kids. When I was going through it I was concerned she would move to another town. If the kids were enrolled in school/family/friends it's kidnapping. She and he have to agree on things before just doing it. What he should have done is called the coppers right away. Now I'm in CA. and it may be different for other states but dads have rights too.

What A Lawyer Can Do When A Spouse Snatches The Children
What would you do if your spouse takes your children without warning and hides them from you? I believe this is happening now to your brother. Will you ever see them again? If a spouse takes your children out of the state, your attorney goes directly to the district attorney for nationwide assistance. The federal Parental Kidnapping Prevention Act applies to all interstate custody disputes, not only child snatching.
Wait, the situation could get worse. Your sister-in law has now fleed to another state and get a valid order there for the custody of her children. However, because you acted promptly in getting a custody order here, your sister-in law conflicting custody order won
