Can we fight back?

Gday.

Recently my mum has tried to take her ex to court because she helped him renervate his house for over 3 years. He promised that he would give her money when the house was sold. Due to his extreme abusiveness to us we left and now he is saying he will not give her a cent. He has his whole family supporting him with money and he is threatening to fight until he has nothing, even the money he needs to support himself and his kid.

Here is the scenario as detailed as i can get it:

. We had been living with him for over 3 years before we moved out
. We helped him renervate his house from an old shack into a very nice house
. We are based in far north Queensland, Australia
. He was very abusive for the time that we were there
. We left a good couple of months ago but he still rings up atleast 2 times a day to abuse mum over the phone
. He promised money once the house was sold
. He has money to go to court
. We do not have money go go to court and our legal aid will only help us through mediation
. Legal aid has given us a lawer for the first part of mediation but if he takes it to court then we will lose our lawer

These are all the details i can think of and i will be happy to answer any questions.

I think you should fire back! You can write to the GOV. to get help..and no need much money.

All the guy had was verbal promises, there is not written document about your agreement. Although, if he decides to go to court, he may utilize witness such as neighbors.
