Unemployment Benefits Denied (sect 612) My question regards unemployment benefits. The statement I received stated (Section 612 of Illinois Insurance Unemployment Act). My teaching position was elminated due to funding purposes, June 13, 2008. I applied for unemployment benefits the end of September.
I worked as much as possible this past school year as a day-to-day substitute teacher for the Chicago Public Schools. When I signed up for unemployment and was granted my unemployment benefits, the unemployment office was aware that I was substitute teaching. I was not granted benefits every week because I often went over my weekly unemployment amount by substitute teaching; however, there were weeks I couldn't work like Christmas, Easter Week, or times I didn't get enough work; therefore, I applied again and received benefits. I was never employed as a contract regular worker for this school district, just as a day-to-day sub as needed. Several weeks ago, just as school is getting out for the summer, I find out unemployment is trying to deny me benefits, because their looking at subbing as my last employer. I have no income and need help now more than ever. This doesn't make sense......I filed an appeal and would appreciate any assitance to my rights/or what can be done.

Hello
Benefit eligibility for Unemployment Insurance is very technical, based on state and federal laws, administrative codes and policies. Only a limited number of staff, called "adjudicators," are qualified to make the decisions which resolve eligibility issues. Each issue is resolved with consideration to the law, codes and procedures, as well as the individual circumstances of the case. Because of the expertise and time required to resolve each issue properly, an individual adjudicator's caseload may be assigned as far as 3 weeks in advance. Thank you very much....

It's good to know that there are still unemployment benefits in your country. Much better compared to our country which doesn't have any benefits when you don't have a job.
