    Privacy act in Nevada?

Hi - I believe that the company I work for is responsible for something that happened to me that should and could have been avoided. It has been almost a year now and I finally have the guts to file suit before the Statute of Limitations expires....

My employer gave my personal identification information away to a person who said that I was "under a criminal investigation". My employer did not ask to see any identification from this guy. The guy was not a police officer nor did he have any other investigative rights. Infact, the person was actually a convicted felon and is now in prison.

I have contacted Legal Services who told me that in the time they had to research my issue, they could not find a direct statute in Nevada prohibiting an employer from giving this information away. However they did send me some information that indirectly pertains to the issue:

1] The Disposal Rule which is part of the FACT (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions)
2] "The Social Security Number Privacy Act" of Michigan state (MCL 445.81 et seq. 2005)
3] California Civil Code 1798.81.5 (employers must maintain reasonable security procedures)
4] Arizona statute (44-1373.02) barring employers from printing more than 5 numbers of an employee's Social Security Number.
5] Maryland Companion Bill H.B. 56 and S.B. 280 barring employers from posting or printing employee Social Security Numbers

They also told me that if an employer could be held liable for negligently releasing such information as held in the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT), that it stands to reason that an employer could be help liable for carelessly or intentionally releasing such information.

I do not have the means to hire an attorney right now but I need to get a Complaint filled within the next month or the Statute of Limitations will expire.

But I also have been unable to find a direct statute for the state of Nevada that prohibits an employer from giving this information away - I am wondering if someone can help me find this statute? It has to exist I must be just overlooking it?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

The Court may order the head of the government institution to disclose the information to the individual. Decisions of the Federal Court on such matters may be appealed to the Federal Court of Appeal, and, if leave is granted
