Situation- I feel I was discriminated against /speech impediment at Wal-Mart...
I was hired mid to late November in the food area of Wal-mart. I was interviewed upon hire twice, once by an assistant Mgr. (totally different dept.), then by the department Mgr. I'd soon be reporting to , any issues on the job that incurred or arose that needed to be brought to attention. Things were going well until other Associates and Supervisors eventually heard
I had a speech impediment. I didn't feel it was the cause, but they treated me differently in other ways. Their attitudes of good-will slowly dissipated to cold personalities and avoidance.
A couple weeks ago I was called back into a Merchandise room by my immediate assistant Mgr. and Dept. Mgr. asking me "what is going on?"
All my pleas and requests of the Dept. Mgr. were shot down in this interview. He then , I felt used as an excuse spotting me on video using my cell phone on company time. It was an emergency call and my mother was in the hospital, and still is for pleurisy and other complications, spawning arterial fibrillation. I was never once, before this, ever on my cellphone in the working area before. He claimed I was ultimately stating I couldn't work under wal-mart's policies because they said I rather should have had my sister call the dept. phone and answer her there. But in the mix of all this, who has the time to look up a number, or would want to in such an important impacting event in one's life.
He toldme I had the option to speak to his supervisor, or go higher up if I didn't agree with their decision. I felt, at the time I was too upset to speak to that person and he had another store manager escort me out to the fornt door (walmart policy)
The assistant Mgr. stated inthis interview I couldn't perform my job, and I didn;t know how to do it well. Yet, every customer who came in there to order food int he food court never had a problem with me, and could understand me fine. Speech impediment or not, it didn;t prevent me from doing my job. Also the duties this Assistant Mgr. felt I couldn't perform, were never truly shown to me , legitimately enough to understand. I feel I was discriminated against. Also, my sister's close friend, a people greeter ASsociate, who is also handicapped, but in a physical way, has told her people in my dpet. still to this day, only a ocuple weeks ago, are laughing about it, and many are saying I was let go becuase I had a speech impediment and didn't know anything. I'm outraged and feel this is an outrage!
Do I have a case?
Should I contact The Store Manager?
Area Superivisor?
Should I let this go?
