proof od discrimination
hello,
I have been at odd with my department director a a few months now. he has made some off base comments lately that have left me with a disturbed feeling. I can go over those later, but my question here today concerns 2 comments in particular. He called me in to a private meeting in his office, and after discussing some business he mentioned some he had been interviewing candidates for a position within my department. he then stated "I have not seen anyone I want to hire. I'm not going to hire some 60 year old guy. I can't see myself telling an old person what to do". Now this comment I let go as off base but didnt think too much of it. A week later he calls me in for another meeting, private. After some business he mentions that he found a candidate he wants to hire. he then says "I wasn't planning on hiring someone that old, but oh well." I then asked why he said that and why the person appeared too old. His answer was "Well he seemed about 25 to 30". Now I sat there a little confused, ready to ask how that was too old. He quickly changed the subject.
I am a 43 year old man, the oldest of the group. yes older than the boss. Was that some sort of hint to me that I am too old for the job in his eyes? We have been at odds and he has been very negative toward me, so nothing he has said to me has been good natured. He has been brining over an unqualified young employee and training him to do my job. making comments to the rest of the staff that I should document everything I work on "In case I get hit by a truck".
I would like advice on how to handle this. I know I can bring issues like this to my HR department, but I would imagine he would deny saying anything of the sort, and it would turn into my word against his. Should I bring this up to them? Will it just put me in more danger of being fired?
Thank you for your time,
Antonio
