Trampolines come with a variety of accessories and sizes. One of the required accessories is a cover for the springs. The cover protects the user from being pinched and/or falling in between the springs. An optional accessory is a net that goes around the trampoline. The net protects the user from falling off the trampoline. A super trampoline is another type. This type of trampoline allows the user to jump over two feet high and defy gravity. The system can have one to six stations available for use. To safely use a trampoline a child should have an adult supervise them while using the product. The trampoline should have one user at a time. When multiple users are on a trampoline it increases the chance of injury. The trampoline must be placed in a safe location that is not near an object where a user can be injured. Before a child is allowed to use the trampoline parents must set rules for proper use. The parent should also discuss the possible consequences and injuries if the child does not follow the rules. Common injuries include sprains, broken arms/legs, minor head injuries, broken necks and spinal cord injuries. Injuries can result from landing improper, striking another user, falling off the trampoline or even falling in between the springs. Last edited by Legalmom02; 05-15-2009 at 08:11 PM. |

I was amazed at how many accidents involve children. I know that children are just having fun and not thinking about being safe but still. I think the manufacturers need to step up and do more to keep children safe. I think a lot of product liability cases arise out of the manufacturer not adding more features than they do.

A trampoline and/or super trampoline can be a fun toy. The user needs to take precautions while using the product. The manufacturer needs to take precautions when creating the product. If the manufacturer does not create a safe product it could cause a personal injury.

I worked on a case where a minor was injured by a company using the product after it was damaged. I was amazed that the Defendants continued to use the trampoline after they knew it was defective.

Here is some good rules and advice which i know too many people do not follow: hence the accidents:
* Trampolines should not be used except when there is adequately trained supervision for the recreational activity. * Trampolines should only be used in well-lighted areas and children should never be allowed to jump onto the trampoline from high objects. * A surrounding net may decrease the injury rate but this has not been extensively proven yet. There is netting now available around the perimeter of trampolines. This netting has been shown to reduce the number of injuries from falls off the rampoline but should only be used with the following warnings: 1) Netting is not a substitute for adequate adult supervision; 2) Netting will not reduce nor eliminate crippling injuries and death on the surface of the trampoline itself. It has been shown to retain users in the trampoline area and for that reason alone is recommended. * The trampoline jumping surface should be placed at ground level. * The supporting bars, strings and surrounding landing surfaces should have adequate protective padding. * Only one participant should use a trampoline at any time. * Trained spotters should be present when participants are jumping. * Somersaults or high-risk maneuvers should be avoided without proper supervision and instruction; these maneuvers should be done only with proper use of protective equipment, such as a harness. * Use of trampolines for physical education, competitive gymnastics, diving training and other similar activities requires carefully trained adult supervision and proper safety measures. * Competent adult supervision and instruction is needed for children at all times. I have experience in helping people find trampolines that are right for there families.
I would say two things are a must - 1. A safety enclosure 2. Join a trampoline club and get professional training.
