narcotics seized abroad

I work for an attorney who is representing a client who was arrested because a package of heroine sent from Africa was seized at Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris supposedly intended for him (it was postmarked to someone who claimed that he was paid by the client to receive it at his address). My question is what chain of custody issues are there considering that it was seized in France by foreign officers. Additionally, what fourth amendment issues does this raise? Thanks for any help
