How long are cops allowed to follow you?

They can follow you for as long as they want. There is no restriction regarding time, only effective distance. They can't arrest you outside of their jurisdiction but they are allowed to follow you for any length of time. If they REALY want to follow you, and you leave their jurisdiction, they'll just call ahead to the next town and have them follow you.

Yeah, the time thing is kind of an urban legend. I remember when I was younger, in high school, everyone would say "Cops can only follow you for two miles, if they follow you for longer than that then they can't pull you over"
I wonder how many people have fallen victim to this myth?

They can follow a person to whatever distance for however long they want but as far as arresting is concerned, it can be done only at a place that comes under their jurisdiction.
