Got a summons yesterday for a credit card debt.

Well first off, i do not dispute that i owe the debt, i was young and dumb and now its caught up to me.

My question is what is the best course of action for me to take here ? The debt is for $2,875.73. I am a 23yr old high school drop out working part time, (the only job i can i find in my area) and i barely make $1,000 a month to support myslef and ailing mother. I haven't even had hot water for the last six months, cuz i can't afford the gas bill.

I made them an offer of $40 a month and thats really all i can afford. They said they would contact the client and call me back. That was two months ago, now suddenly i'm being sued. What should i do ?

but there you'll must spend a lawyer. Verify into it - I do know it is possible to file BR yourself

You may be able to negotiate a deal with the lawyer representing the creditor. Be very careful about negotiating with collection agencies, which notoriously rip people off. Bankruptcy lawyers all offer free consultations and can be very helpful. A lawyer may help you negotiate a settlement rather than bankruptcy, for such a small amount of money.
