mechanic taking 7 months on car still not done?

im in ohio if it matters.

Okay well I Bought a car in mid july 09.It then spun a bearing about a month later.I contacted a local mechanic that works out of a garage. He said the engine needed rebuilt. This mechanic has worked on mine and my friends cars before on minor stuff, brakes, exhaust and so on.He had been to my house before so when i asked him how much it would cost to rebuilt the engine, he said he would do it for $500 if i gave him a motor home that he seen on my property. It was probably worth 5k,I was moving at the time so,I told him if he has it towed from my house to where ever he wants it he had a deal.I told him I would give him the $500 upfront and he could get the motor home towed but I wouldnt sign over title until the work was done.So I gave him the $500,and took my car to his shop.He then had the motorhome towed to his house,He parked it on the street so the city towed it.That was in like late august 09.My car is pretty rare and an import so parts are expensive and hard to find.well from july-september He would work on the car maybe once a week for a couple hours never really getting anything done.So anyway i was driving a friends car while mine was being rebuilt,The friend needed his car back so I told my mechanic my car needed to be done ASAP.That was around november 09.The mechanic said it would be about another 2 weeks and he also let me drive one of his cars until mine was done.Well come december it was still not done.I started complaining to him and kinda pissed him off so He said he needed his car back.I told him I will give him his car back if he signs a paper that shows what the agreement was($500+motor home) And put a date that he would have it done by.He said he would have it done on the 24th of december 2009.So i typed up a paper with both our names, the agreement and the date he said he would have it done by.We both signed it,I also recorded me reading the agreement and him acknowledging that is was all correct.(He is puerto rican so I figured if we did end up in court it would be hard to deny he signed the paper with his voice also)I gave him his car back.Well he put most of it back together from december-now,but the last part we needed was an oil pan.I bought this oil pan about mid january.I have not been able to contact him since, and im really tired of trying to be nice to him,Im in school still and I work so its kinda hard to find time and or money to get a lawyer for this unless it's a sure thing. So what im asking is can I take this to court?Should I?What would the outcome be if I did? Something else i found out earlier this week is that from where the motor home was towed to his place,There is a $4800 charge for it being impounded.Am i liable for it being that he both verbally agreed on recording and signed a paper that shows he had it towed to his place?Any help, advice or anything would be much

You can take this issue to the court but it would be nice if you both solved between yourself, as taking him to the court will consume your more time and even the pay of the lawyer will be much high, means you need lot of money for going to the court. If you can afford it then it's fine. You will lost more instead of gaining something.
