    second legal opinions

How appropriate is it to seek a second legal opinion?
Is the solicitation of a second legal opinion considered by the legal profession to be an accepted practice or is it a rare occurence?
The context of my question stems from some members of my Board of Directors looking for another opinion that differs from the one supplied by our attorney. The opinion is sound and reasonable, but not what they wanted to here.
I am very concerned that the second opinion will be interpreted by our attorney as a repudiation of his legal skills and that bound by professional ethics would require that he drop us as a client....or am I taking this scenario a bit too far?

Any attorney compitent in the area of law for which your are seeking a second opinion would be pleased to have you do so just as a physician compitent in lung cancer would encourage you to seek a second opinion as to your lung cancer. Simply, professional ethics.

A second opinion is usually a good idea and although the other attorney may be able to drop you as a client, that is usually not the case. It is one thing if you visit a dozen different attorneys to get their prices, opinions, etc... but getting a second opinion is usually a smart decision. Many attorneys made differ on how to approach legal matters, what strategies to use. Do not hesitate to tell an attorney how you want to proceed if you think that is the better option for you.
