Collection Agency Harassment
I am having an issue with NCO Financial Services INC., Quebec branch, I am located in BC, Canada.
It all started during some shady dealings I was involved with when I was 15, someone sent over $2000 to me on PayPal trying to get me to send it to Russia through one of the money transfer services. I did the stupid thing and kept it, and for almost 4 years, I never heard anything more of it, I thought I was in the clear. Then, last year I got a notice on my account that it was frozen, pending a fraud investigation into the payment I had received the 4 years before, then 15 minutes later they had apparently decided I was guilty, wiped out the almost $200 I had in my account, and left me with a negative balance of $1979.21 . I contacted them and told them, basically, that I didn't think it was fair that they could have possibly done such an investigation in that 15 minutes, and questioned whether or not they had done it. The next time I heard anything about it, they had set up an account with an infamous collection agency, and the agency was calling sometimes 4 times a day to try and coerce me into paying. This has gone on for just over a year now, and eventually we stopped answering the phone if we didn't recognize the number. They went so far as to calling my parents and yelling at them, and now they have sent me a letter saying that my "delinquency will no longer be tolerated" and demanded I pay them the full amount.
I have been talking to people with similar experiences, and they have told me that they were advised by their lawyers that "since canada has no laws about legally being obligated to deal with collection agencies, to simply ignore them" But now I am a little bit worried, and I am curious as to what my options at this point are. Any help would be appreciated.

A piece of an advice trust the persons advise who had experienced it before besides you did not do anything wrong about it your just a victim of some crel people who had abused your innocence to certain things

Thank you for posting this very helpful information. Owing a debt does not automatically subject you to harassing, threatening and other inappropriate collection agency behavior. Some collection agencies go too far with what I call renegade collectors they will repeatedly call you at your home or business.
